About SudokuHint

A Sudoku coach that teaches you how to think — not just what to fill in.

The problem with most Sudoku apps

Almost every Sudoku app on the web is a great tool, but a poor teacher. When you get stuck, the hint button gives you the answer. Maybe it shows the technique name ("Pointing Pair", "X-Wing"), but it rarely explains how you were supposed to spot it on your own next time. You learn that there's an answer. You don't learn how to find one.

That gap is what SudokuHint fills.

How SudokuHint is different

When you press the 💡 Hint button, you don't get the answer first. You get a direction: "Look at this cell." That alone is often enough — you scan it, think for a moment, and the logic clicks. If it doesn't, you tap Tell me more, and the reasoning is revealed step by step:

  1. The specific reason this digit goes here.
  2. The general thinking process — how you would spot it yourself next time.
  3. What the technique is called, with a plain-English explanation.

The progressive reveal is deliberate. The more of the reasoning you generate, the more it sticks.

What we are building toward

The current site is the foundation. Coming soon:

  • Conversational hints (AI-powered). You will be able to ask follow-up questions like "Why not the column instead?" and get answers grounded in your specific board.
  • Daily puzzles — a fresh challenge every day, shared by everyone, with leaderboards.
  • Sudoku variants — Killer Sudoku, Mini Sudoku (4x4 and 6x6), Diagonal Sudoku.
  • The full technique library — every solving strategy from Naked Singles to advanced patterns like X-Wing, Y-Wing, and Swordfish.

Who builds this

SudokuHint is built and maintained by a one-person indie hacker team — design, engineering, hint engine, and every word of every tutorial. The site has no investors, no advertisers, no analytics broker; only a privacy-friendly Vercel Analytics counter so we know which pages are useful.

Why one person? Because the product philosophy — "teach the thinking, not just the answer" — needs to be enforced everywhere, from the engine's reason text down to the FAQ copy. A small team keeps that consistency.
